Bundesliga Match Day 8: Weekend Wrap-Up

Luka Jovic, take a bow.

The 20-year old Serbian international put on a freakin' show for Eintracht Frankfurt in Die Adler's 7-1 dismantling of Fortuna Düsseldorf as he scored an astounding five goals.

The video below captures the performance, but anyone who has followed the starlet knew he was talented. This kind of explosion, however, doesn't happen often.

More importantly, though, this was exactly the kind of performance that I've been waiting to see from Eintracht Frankfurt all season. If Adi Hutter's crew is truly ready to be a consistent force then the Bundesliga just got a whole lot more interesting.

Die Adler plays with a pace, tenacity, and reckless abandonment that should be appreciated

Predicted score: Eintracht Frankfurt 3, Fortuna Düsseldorf 1

Bayern Munich 3, Wolfsburg 1: Robert Lewandowski came back to life and had a spectacular game for Die Roten as he tallied a brace and an assist to lead the effort for Bayern. The Bavarians absolutely needed this win and looked far more confident and played with much more urgency than they had at any point in the past month.

Predicted score: Bayern Munich 3, Wolfsburg 1

RB Leipzig 0, FC Augsburg 0: I expected a shootout, but there were no goals scored. I am still trying to comprehend two teams with so much offensive talent - and defensive liabilities - managed to go scoreless. I am baffled. I need to move on.

Predicted score: RB Leipzig 4, FC Augsburg 3

Hannover 96 2, Bayer Leverkusen 2: Hannover did exactly what it normally does and that is muck the game up for the opposition. Using goals from 20-year old Florent Muslija and Martins Felipe, Hannover had Leverkusen right where they wanted them. Unfortunately for Hannover, Karim Bellarabi scored in the 4th minute of extra time to knot the game.

This is not the type of game that Die Werkself should be losing. Hannover is no pushover, but at some point Leverkusen needs to show its form on a consistent basis. Lars Bender had the other goal for Die Werkself, which will look to rebound next week against an extremely impressive Werder Bremen side.

Predicted score: Bayer Leverkusen 3, Hannover 96 1

Werder Bremen 2, Schalke 04 0: Werder Bremen continued its excellent play behind a brace from Maximilian Eggestein to shutout Schalke, which again looks kind of hapless. Lamenting the state of Schalke is becoming too common a theme here, so we'll appreciate the fine work of Werder Bremen. As American Josh Sargent is looking like he's close to making his debut, Die Werderaner looks like it could get even stronger and more potent offensively.

Predicted score: Schalke 04 2, Werder Bremen 1

Hoffenheim 3 FC Nürnberg 1: Hanno Behrens put Der Club on the scoreboard in the 18th minute, but from there is was all Hoffenheim. Die Kraichgauer used goals from 18-year old Reiss Nelson (brace) and Adam Szalai to put away Nürnberg.

Predicted score: Hoffenheim 3 FC Nürnberg 1

Borussia Dortmund 4, VfB Stuttgart 0: BVB is still rolling and just battered a seemingly hopeless Stuttgart side behind goals from Jadon Sancho, Marco Reus, Paco Alcácer, and Max Philipp to stay scorching hot. Dortmund is looking menacing right now and I am looking extremely forward to Der Klassiker. That game - should both teams stay healthy and in form - should be....a classic.

Predicted score: Borussia Dortmund 3, VfB Stuttgart 1

Hertha Berlin 1, SC Freiburg 1: Ondrej Duda continued his excellent play with a goal, but it was not enough to guide Hertha Berlin to a victory. Duda's tally came in the 7th minute, but Freiburg's Robin Koch scored in the 36th minute to knot the game. From there the squad's went scoreless and the game ended in a draw. Consider this a lost opportunity for both sides...obviously for different reasons.

Predicted score: Hertha Berlin 3, SC Freiburg 2

Borussia Monchengladbach 4, Mainz 0: M'Gladbach continued its torrid pace by throttling Mainz behind a hat trick from Jonas Hofmann and a goal Thorgan Hazard. Hazard, who has been spectacular this season also had two assists. The Foals are for real.

Predicted score: Borussia Monchengladbach 3, Mainz 1

Weekly record: 5-4 Season record: 31-41

Note: Predicted ties count as a win if correct and as a loss if there is a winner; conversely if a game is predicted to have a winner but ends in a tie, it will count as a loss.
