Bundesliga Match Day 27: Weekend Wrap-Up

Well, fool me once, shame on me, fool me twice....and all of that. I fell for the trap again and started to believe that Bayer Leverkusen had turned the corner, but Hoffenheim made sure that was not the case.
In a thoroughly dominating effort, TSG1899 smacked Die Werkself 4-1. A brace from Ishak Belfodil (10' and 61'), an own goal from Sven Bender (51'), and score from Andrej Kramaric (79') was just too much for Leverkusen to contend with.
Even with a surplus of young talent, Peter Bosz has been unable to find the consistency required to get his team on a permanent course upward in the table. Kevin Volland's 17th minute goal prevented the shutout, but this was Hoffenheim's night for sure.
Julian Nagelsmann has once again proven to be able to find the right formula for his team and it is starting to become scary to think about what he might be able to do with a talented young squad like RB Leipzig next season.
Prediction: Hoffenheim 2, Bayer Leverkusen 2 (L)
Here is a GIF that truly captures how my picks fared this week:
Borussia Dortmund 2, Wolfsburg 0: It wasn't always pretty, but Paco Alcacer's extra-time brace catapulted BVB back into first place in the squad's shutout win over Wolfsburg. With Bayern Munich only being able to earn a draw at Freiburg, the stage is now set for next week's Der Klassiker to be the most important game of the league season.
Prediction: Borussia Dortmund 2, Wolfsburg 1 (W)
Fortuna Dusseldorf 3, Borussia Monchengladbach 1: I didn't see this curb stomping coming. F95 jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Rouwen Hennings (6' and 16') and Kevin Stoger (12') powered Dusseldorf ahead and M'Gladbach never knew what hit it.
It was a thoroughly disappointing performance by Die Fohlen, which has struggled to regain any type of consistency in the Ruckrunde. Denis Zakaria (83') prevented the clean sheet, but that was about the only positive for the Foals.
Prediction: Borussia Monchengladbach 3, Fortuna Dusseldorf 1 (L)
Bayern Munich 1, SC Freiburg 1: From the opening whistle, Christian Streich had his team prepared and focused for the massive task at hand and Freiburg rose to the occasion to earn a 1-1 draw. Lucas Holer's header in the third minute gave Breisgau-Brasilianer an early 1-0 lead and even though a brilliant effort from Robert Lewandowski in the 22nd minute tied the game, Bayern really had no answer fro breaking through Freiburg.
It was another brilliant coaching performance from Streich, whose team now appears safely out the threat of relegation.
Prediction: Bayern Munich 4, SC Freiburg 0 (L)
FC Nurnberg 3, FC Augsburg 0: Mikael Ishak (52'), Matheus Pereira (88'), and Eduard Lowen (90+1') helped Der Club bounce an unmotivated and over-matched side from Die Fuggerstädter.
Prediction: FC Augsburg 3, FC Nurnberg 1 (L)
Werder Bremen 3, Mainz 1: While most of my picks were terrible, Werder Bremen continued to excel and prevent me from looking even more dumb. Milot Rashica (3') and Max Kruse (36' and 63') provided the offense for Die Werderaner as it captured another three points in an increasingly impressive season.
Robin Quaison (52') kept the game respectable for Mainz, but it was clearly Werder Bremen's day.
Prediction: Werder Bremen 2, Mainz 1 (W)
RB Leipzig 5, Hertha Berlin 0: In a week with a fair amount of shocking results, this one was the most shocking. Yussuf Poulsen (hat trick), Emil Forsberg and Amadou Haidara all scored to lead Leipzig
Prediction: RB Leipzig 2, Hertha Berlin 2 (L)
Schalke 04 1, Hannover 96 0: In what really was a battle of two of the worst performing teams in the league, Schalke squirted by H96 behind a goal from Suat Serdar, but this was not exactly a game film that you'd want to put in a time capsule.
Prediction: Schalke 04 2, Hannover 96 1 (W)
Eintracht Frankfurt 3, VfB Stuttgart 0: Filip Kostic contributed a brace and Luka Jovic continued his torrid play to power Die Adler. It was another excellent performance for Frankfurt, which has become the "can't miss" team every week in the Bundesliga.
Prediction: Eintracht Frankfurt 3, VfB Stuttgart 1 (W)
Last match day record: 4-5
Season record: 121-122
Note: Predicted ties count as a win if correct and as a loss if there is a winner; conversely if a game is predicted to have a winner but ends in a tie, it will count as a loss.
