Timo Werner's contract extension has RB Leipzig ready to rock

RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner is undoubtedly one of the best, most productive players in the Bundesliga. The 23-year-old Germany international earned another call-up to the national team and signed a contract extension with Die Roten Bullen that will run through the 2023 season.

The significance of the signing was mostly due to the fact that Bayern Munich was tied so closely to Werner during the summer transfer window. It was thought by many, that the Bavarians were imminently on their way to bringing the former Stuttgart youth player over to the Allianz Arena.

As the summer days passed by, however, Bayern Munich did not ever work through any terms with Leizpig, despite reports that it had agreed to a deal -- in principle -- with Werner. In reality, it just seems like Werner got tired of waiting around for Bayern to make the deal.

I took a look at what Werner's decision to would mean to Bayern Munich here, but the primary outcome is that Werner is going to drive RB Leipzig to be a force in the Bundesliga this season and beyond.

Robert Lewandowski's rumored contract extension came to fruition as well this week, which will keep the best striker on Earth tied to Bayern Munich through 2023. Yup, the same time that Werner is due to have his deal with Die Roten Bullen expire -- and likely the man catalyst in keeping Bayern Munich from making a commitment to Werner.

A real tinfoil hat theory would be that this sets up nicely for Werner to make a relatively inexpensive move to Bavaria in 2022 when Lewandowski is preparing his exit strategy for MLS (I can totally see the Polish Hitman heading to Los Angeles to close out his career) where the duo would share a season before the Pole rides off into the sunset.

Still, with Fiete Arp in Munich as Lewandowski's protege, it is conceivable that Werner's much anticipated move to Bavarian just never materializes even if both sides kind of want it to happen.

Sure there have been other teams such as Atletico Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, and Liverpool all linked to Werner, but the speed merchant has been adamant about wanting to stay in Germany -- at least for now.

I'd expect -- hell, I'll predict -- that Werner continues to progress and absolutely keeps on producing to the point that the big name suitors will keep knocking on RB Leipzig's door asking if Timo can come out to play.

None of that matters for now, though. Julian Nagelsmann has his top scoring threat fully invested in the RB Leipzig team for this season and beyond. At a minimum, things should be exciting in Leipzig and the Bundesliga should be a blast to follow as Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Bayer Leverkusen, and even Wolfsburg all can make life hell for the opposition.

Buckle up...its going to be a fun ride.
